We will be wrapping up the project about books and storytelling this week. It has been interesting to see the direction the project has gone. We have looked at our favourite stories and retold them in a number of ways. We have made a classroom book based on one of their favourites, “Brown Bear Brown Bear What do you See?” We would like to present our book during our celebration of learning on Tuesday, December 8th from 11:00 to 11:30 for the morning class and from 2:45 to 3:15 for the afternoon class. The children will also sing a few songs and show the work they have done from the project.
We would like to start a project on light on December 9th. The centre’s philosophy supports tolerance and sensitivity towards various religious beliefs. Instead of focusing on the celebration of Christmas during this time of year, we are going to explore a number of holiday traditions (ex. Hanukkah, Divali, Winter Solstice, etc.) and take a look at how light is represented in each celebration. In order to make this project on light as successful as possible, we need parent help. If you or anyone you know would like to come in and talk to the children about a particular holiday tradition and how light is incorporated we would greatly appreciate your time and help! This is a fun and interesting project and helps expose the children to different cultures and traditions.
One last note, Lesley will be away for the week of December 14 to the 17th. I am a part of a baptism in Cuernavaca, Mexico and it falls before our Christmas break. We have Tera subbing in the morning (she has subbed a couple of times before). For the afternoon there will be two education students subbing on alternate days. Have a great week!
